Q: where can i find a cheap (like in a salvage yard) 1969 mercury cougar?
My dad’s been looking for a ‘69 mercury cougar to work on FOREVER and we can’t find one. If you know of somewhere in like Missouri, Kansas, somewhere near there or northern Texas that would help.
A: Your chances of finding a ‘69 anything in a junk yard are between slim and none. Use Craig’s list as that will allow you to search in certain locations. Ebay is another place, and you can do a whole US search or within 200 miles. The areas you mentioned are some of the best places to find cars. One of our club members here in Alabama took off searching for a car traveling the back roads of the mid west. He came home with a ‘37 Chevy he found in someones yard and knocked on the door to see if it was for sale. There are lots of cars around that people just let sit since they don’t know the vehicle has value. If I lived in your area I would be traveling the back roads every weekend, you never know what’s around the next corner or in the next field. Hope this helped, good luck in your search.
Q: Trying to find production information for 1969 Mercury Cougar?
I only have the VIN number, the door tag was missing, and I wish to get the info for the engine code, the transmission code etc. that was originally in the car at manufacture? Does anyone know where I might find this?
A: This site has the information you need:

Q: whats a 1969 Mercury Cougar eliminator worth?
Its a 69 cougar eliminator with a 351w automatic in original condition, never been restored, and looks new. im the 2nd owner., only 70k miles
A: look it up on kelly blue book it will give you a quote of what its worth.
Q: 1969 Mercury Cougar, value? Requires complete restoration.?
I have a friend selling his 1969 XR7. The car is in pieces, and will require a complete restoration. The body is solid, and reasonably straight. No front end collisions ever. Rear ended, and straightened at some point. 351 W, bored .060 over, balanced and blueprinted. No intake or carb. Headers look ok. Glass is fine.
A: Just checked ‘Hemmings’; ‘68 XR7 with new suspension/steering, GT40 heads w/fuel injection, ‘needs paint’ listed for $7,000.00. A Cougar needing full restoration — I’d guess about $1,000.00 — $1,200.00 tops providing you have the expertise to do the majority of work yourself. Face it…you would probably be money ahead to spend to spend 7K on one that runs vs $5,000.00 on one that takes four years to build.
Q: Know anything about a Auto 1969 Mercury Cougar X-R7 351?
Centimeters away from getting one for a phenomenal price, but I don’t know much about the car itself.
Any and all information is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks =)
PS, I’m currently driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, hahah
A: This car is the Mercury counter part to the Mustang (at least in 1969 it was).
Rare yes, and to some more desirable the the Mustang.
To me it is a nice one off from all the now mundane Mustang restorations/modifications.
There are plenty of parts out there for restoration, and for speed anything that worked for a 351 Mustang will work for your Z-R7.
Q: i have a 1969 mercury cougar im trying to figure out what size engine it has (not original)either 302 or 351?
my block number is eoae-d3c-1h12
intake is 9 inches across and radiator hose comes out water pump not block it is an older points motor and i went to ford casting numbers and it just says 1980 smallblock ford
A: if the water outlet is on the front of the intake then measure the width of the intake. a 302 is about 10 in across and a 351 is about 12. If the water outlet is on the block then it is something different still.
Q: im looking for the right rear passenger glass for an 1969 mercury cougar. thank you in advance.?
A: Try almost any of the Mustang restoration parts supply places. They were basically the same car back then and most of the parts are inter-changeble, I have done this with them before.
Q: Would it be a good trade? my 2001 Ford Mustang V6 80000 miles for a 69 Cougar 351W 90000 miles?
My car doesn’t have a single body panel that isn’t dented or scratched. My bottom is starting to rust out. The 1969 Mercury Cougar is in exquisite condition. There is very little rust. It starts up immediately and shifts perfectly. Would it be a fair trade? Or is there probably something wrong with the other car?
A: its a great deal. of course it might need a little work, its 40 years old. thats to be expected. but it will definately be worth more, and will turn more heads than the ‘01 lol. i would inspect the car though, as it does sound too good to be true. try getting a mechanic to check it out. there are always those hidden issues. but idf there is really nothing wrong with it, go for it. without a doubt.
Q: 1969 Mustang Back Seat?
I am wondering if a backseat from a 1969 Mercury Cougar will fit in my 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback? If not would the upholstery fit on my mustang seats? The reason I ask is because I’m putting in some Procar Rally seats and it would look really nice and original if I can get that back seat or upholstery to work.
A: No, coupes and fastbacks are different..
Q: Did the Mercury Cougar GT-E option come with a 427 or 428 Cobra-Jet ?
A friend of mine recently found one ,that he bought .
He claims that it originally had a 427 Sideoiler . I knew they put Cobra-Jets in Mustangs and Fairlanes in 196970 , but I thought all you could get was a 390 GT, in 1968 .
A: Actually both !
Early production Cougar GT-E’s were vin stamped with a W code for the engine , which meant they received the legendary 427 Sideoiler (detuned for 1968 ) single 4V carb and hydraulic camshaft producing an underrated HP of 390 .
Later production after April 1st , the 427 was shelfed due mostly to manufacturing costs , the 428 Cobra-Jet was introduced . $755 vs $300 were pretty close #’s to actual cost, back then.
BTW They produced 357 427 powered Cougars and only about 37 428 Ram Air Cobra-Jet GT-E’s .
Q: Do you think they will ever bring back the mercury cougar?
I own a 2000 mercury cougar. I love this car it is amazing. It’s small good looking relatively fast considering how heavy the car is and how small the engine is. And it’s advanced and good on gas.
However they no longer make them anymore =(.
Do you think the cougar will ever come back?
And if they do i hope they are as powerful as they were back in 1969
And yes i know there are various models of the Cougar. They should have never changed it to a luxury car because it was better as a sports car like it was meant to be when it was made back in the 60’s. If they reintroduce it again they should actually give it some balls.
A: It would be kind of cool. I’d like to see a luxury coupe version released (as I have owned an ‘88 and ‘93). You never know especially considering now, there are a lot of retro cars making a comeback ie. Camaro, GTO, Charger. Unfortunately, the appeal ususally doesn’t last very long. It’s more of a novelty than anything. They often only last a couple years. I think the GTO has already been discontinued. The new Thunderbird that was based off the 50’s two-seater was only around a couple years before it was stopped (although those cars are still selling for 20,000ish dollars). But who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky and see it happen.
Q: Can you still buy cars like these?
The 1969 Mercury Cougar and the 1971 Ford Mustang.
A: Yes you can. I myself have a 1969 Cougar convertible. There are numerous places to look for them.
Q: 1967 Cougar: Quetion about putting a 429 Engine in it?
I have a 1967 Mercury Cougar, I have found a 429 engine out of a 1969 Ford Thunderbird, would that 429 bolt up to my car, or would it take some fabrication? Also the 429 engine has a c6 trans, would that bolt up or not? The car was an orginal 390 car.
A: not without major mods ie cutting and reinforceing shock towers etc find a 428 0r 427 or just build a 390
Q: Should i get this car?
its a 1969 mercury cougar he wants 4500 for it
it has no right door panel interior and the motor runs good its a 351 windsor
it has a dent in the right back corner and the paint is chipped bye the back tail light 4500 for it i really like how it looks so should i consider ?
A: hellllll noooo tell that guy to go to hell
