Q: Looking for grey door panels for my mustang 1966?
Been looking for door panels for my 1966 mustang. My car is mainly grey with a black stripe right down the middle. My door jams are painted grey and looking to match with a grey door panel. Can’t find a site that sells them grey.
A: The door panels were never available in gray. Your best bet is to get yourself some gray vinyl dye, and paint the panels yourself.
Q: how do you put on a rear window vertical weatherstrip on a classic 1966 mustang?
the vertical weatherstrip on a 1966 mustang rear window.
A: it’s a one piece around the whole window and has to be replaced, remove window and reinstall new one…a professional can do it in 10 minutes..
If you are talking about the side window, it glues on..
Q: What are the stock engine specs for a 1966 Mustang?
Also, is it possible to find a “kit car” for the ‘66 Mustang? What engines are available for a ‘66 Mustang kit car?
A: sorry, no kit car, but lots of parts
Here are some specs http://boxwrench.net/specs/ford_289_302-5.0.htm
the only engines that will fit in the early Mustangs (65 and 66) are the 302,289,260,250,200,170 because of the narrow engine bay created from the coil towers.
Actually they all came out in the 65/66 Mustang except the 302 and 250 which came out in 68/69 Horse power ranged from 120 in the six to 271 in the eight.
lots more info here
Q: How difficult would it be to put a 5 speed manuel trans in a 1966 mustang that is automatic?
I may get a 5 speed manuel out of a 1992 F-150, how can I make a automatic car into a manuel, the hole is already in the floor what else would I need? I am thinking about putting also a 302 engine out of another 1992 Ford F-150 in the mustang, wouldnt the manuel trans match up to the 302 engine?
A: trans bell housing wont fit hole in floor will be in wrong place and unfortunately youll have to replace the fly wheel also mustang clutch part can be bought un fortunately the hydraulic clutch will have to have all mounts fabricated because that mustang used a z-bar so here what you do google mustang monthly magazine and look at the technical swap articles or mustangs and fast fords.com
hope this helps
Q: Can I use some 1966 mustang coupe parts for my 1968 mustang fastback?
Can you please help me. There is an old 1966 coupe(looks like) and I need a couple of parts. I was wondering if I could use some of them. If so please list any of them that you can think of. It would help out a lot. I’M 15 years old and of course and just can’t afford it. Thanks A LOT!!!!!!
A: There was a major redesign involving most everything except some drivetrain and suspension stuff between the ‘66 and ‘67 models. And then a pretty major sheetmetal and interior redesign between ”68 and ‘69 models. 1967 models share quite a few parts with a ‘68, and then the ‘69-’70 models would be next most compatible. The headlights for example, would interchange, but so would the headlights from 2/3 of American cars built during the ’60’s. In reality, you could probably find more parts that fit from a ‘67 or ‘68 Fairlane or Falcon than a ‘66 Mustang. Powertrain, Drivetrain and suspension stuff would be your best bet, but even then there were major changes in some stuff during these years.
Just as an example, they even changed the bellhousing pattern of the C4 Transmission during the ‘65 model year, so none of those fit later Windsor engines. If the ‘66 has a 6 cylinder engine, it would have different spindles, with 4 lug nuts, whereas those from a V8 would swap, whether you have a 6 or a V8. Frankly, it would be a lot easier to answer the question if you listed what parts you had in mind, along with the engine and transmission combination of each vehicle.
Q: Are the instrument gauge panels in 1965 & 1966 mustang coupes interchangeable?
I have a 66 mustang but all the pictures of replacement instrument panels look like the panels for 65 mustangs. Just wondering if one of the previous owners may have changed it out.
A: Yes i guess he did change the instruments.
Q: Which glasspacks sound better on a 1966 mustang v8 289?
I’m going to put dual exhaust on my mustang this week. Just want to know which glasspack sounds the best and which one performs better.
A: I like the old style originals..and there’s not much room, so the skinnier the better.. ask for straight through glass packs..
Q: How many quarts of oil should I put in my 1966 mustang?
I have been restoring my mustang and idk how many quarts of motor oil I should put in it before I try to start it
Its a 6 cylinder
A: add 4 quarts, start it to fill the filter, check oil pressure and check for leaks, if ok, shut it down and add one more… and check the dipstick to be sure it has the right one..I like to use a 10/30 in a new engine and 10/40 in a older one..
Q: How many MPG does a 1966 Mustang 289 auto get?
Please only answer if you have a older mustang, or know someone who does. Thanks
A: I got 14 to 18 mpg with mine… The best I ever got was 20 with everything perfect. They are pretty touchy to tune and have to kept up…
Q: Will a 1979-93 5 lug spindles and brakes fit on a 1966 mustang?
I am converting a 1966 6 cylinder to a v8 and need v8 spindles and disk brakes. I found some for sale, but they are for a 1979-93 will they fit on a 66?
A: 79-93 came with 4 lugs…except the 93 Cobra.
Q: What modifications should I make to my 1966 Mustang to make it a daily driver?
Not including cosmetic issues. Not interested in showing the car, just making it my daily go-to.
Already have rebuilt 289 with low miles.
A: Depends on your budget. An electronic ignition will give you better performance and you won’t have to worry about points anymore. A good set of plugs and plug wires to make the most of the spark you do get. Keep the oil changed regularly along with other fluids and it should be fine. Make sure the carb is working fine so as not to waste fuel. Someone might make a fuel injection for it but they are usually several thousand dollars.
Don’t forget the transmission. I would consider a B&M transpak to take out the slippage and make tranny last longer but under hard acceleration will will chirp gears ( at least mine did).
Make sure the chassis gets lubed once in a while including the grease in the differential. Normal stuff really
Q: what color should i paint my 1966 mustang?
i just recently bought a 1966 ford mustang and im going to paint it but im not sure what color will look the best. any suggestions or websites would be great!
the color of the interior doesn’t matter
A: if it has a nice original color, stay with it, but if if was one of those puke colors, change it to what ever you like..
Q: Can i put a 302 engine on a 1966 mustang?
I have a 1966 ford mustang with a v6 200 engine. We swapped the leaf springs for Mustangs unlimited part 42329 01. http://mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=42329+01
Can i put a 302 engine into the car with those leaf springs?
A: Yes you can, it says that it is made for 260 and 289 v8 and a heavy duty spring for the v6. The 302 would be a perfect swap. Oh and the 200 is a straight 6 not a v6. Ford didn’t put a v6 in a 1966, mainly because Ford didn’t have a v6 in 1966.
Q: How much would it cost to paint a 1966 Mustang a shiny black?
I don’t want any bodywork, just a new paint job. If you happen to know the cheapest place it would be appreciated if you wwould suggest it. Also i don’t want a cheap paint job but i dont want a super expensive one either, just a clean, shiny, durable job. Thanx
A: i had my red ranger repainted black door jams and all. 920 bucks. macco did it came with 4 yr warrenty if paint chipped or faded they repaint the whole thing again. thats what i suggest to you. i am completey satisfied with their work and i can send you pictures. cheapest way it a college auto tech school will do it like 300 bucks to practice for their students they do just the same work but maybe not as great quality.
Q: What kind of headers do I choose for my 1966 mustang?
I drive my care every day and need good mileage, I hear that jb headers are good. Does any one know what kind to get or recommend what type of headers for a 289 v8?
A: the original TriYs were good..
