Q: If I make a clone corvette 1968 model, do I need to register it in company or permit to make it?
can i make a clone corvette 1968 model without permit to the company of corvette?
A: it depend,s on what your going to use as a base model…if your simply going to clone a newer corvette to a 68 & the title is from a year that require,s emission testing then you will have a problem…if your building a car from scratch then you’ll need D.O.T. inspection certification , & a builder,s title. in any case you’ll need a title to buy license plate,s …but if it,s for personal use…you can do it…depending on what your going to use as a rolling chassis…if you have a title to use then you don’t need permission from chevrolet but you may need that D.O.T. inspection to change the title to say 68 clone…much depend,s on exactly what your plan,s are…good luck!
Q: How do I turn off the ‘wiper ajar’ light on a 1968 corvette?
The ‘wiper ajar’ light is still on, even after I have reset it. Is there any other way I can turn it off?
A: I used to own a 68 Vette and there is a Door Ajar light but no “wiper ajar” light on it. But there is a “Wiper O’Ride” light. On the lower dash under the steering wheel there is a wiper override switch to open the wiper cover if the vacuum actuated cover doesn’t open when you slide the wiper switch. That “Wiper O’Ride” light on the center console cluster comes on when you turn the override switch on. Someone who drove it must have had a problem with the wiper cover not popping up when they turned the wipers on. The headlights have a similar problem opening sometimes and they have a similar override switch under the steering wheel. If the wiper override switch is turned off and the “Wiper O’Ride” light is still on try pushing down on the wiper cover. The problem I had with mine was just the opposite. A lot of times I had to force the wiper cover open even with the override switch turned on but I never had a problem with the cover going fully down when I turned the wiper slider switch and the override switch off.

Q: Looking to get a Corvette 1968-1996 want to know the better years and why?????
Always wanted a Corvette, I would like to know from someones experience which years are better and why, I personally like the body style of the shark as they call it, from 68 to 82 I believe, anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Tom
A: The ‘68 – ‘82 was indeed the Stingray ’shark’ design (very nice body style). The ‘68 was a real rattletrap due to it’s new design model but most of the bugs were worked out by ‘72. After that emissions systems strangled the poor Corvettes so much that the output of the 350 V8 was down to a dismal 157 hp (less than a modern Honda Civic). The ideal solution would be a ‘78 Vette equipped with a modern aftermarket electronic ignition and fuel injection system. The hp would leap to about 300, fuel mileage would see a vast improvement and the car could be driven everyday with minimum upkeep. The drawback would be the appx. four grand it would take just to convert the engine to modern times. You would probably be far ahead just to a buy ‘96 model and get the best of both worlds. Stay away from the C4’s if possible. They were rife with suspension and electrical demons that never got sorted out until the model change to C5.
FYI: there was no 1983 model Corvette.
Q: can anyone tell me if you can repair a wiper door vacuum canister on a 1968 corvette …it is sealed all round
but someone has previously opened it for some reason….to have one shipped to australia it will cost around 500 dollars..trying to avoid the cost… it seems to be losing vacuum..thanks everybody
A: Since the vacuum tries to pull air inward through the hole, it should easily be repaired with the Permatex “cold weld” product below which I’ve used many times. However, you have to make sure you get a fresh package from your retail store, because the product gets old on the shelf and the shelf life is not long.

Q: 1968 corvette information?
Was the 1968 Corvette FIA race car basically stock with just some body changes for improved aerodynamics or did it have a better engine and suspension?
A: The L-88 option was a rare one. 650 HP out of a lightweight 427 cubic inch V-8.
Owners who raced them had the choice of body modifications left up to them. Aerodynamics, like the headlight treatment was in place to lighten the car by eliminating the extra weight of the retractible headlight mechanisms. Convertibles with the optional hardtops were better than the coupe body style for racing.
Q: Whaat size engine did the 1968 Corvette Stingray have?
A: Corvette didn’t make a Stingray in 68. They made ‘em called “Sting Ray” (2 words) until 67, and then brought them back as a Stingray (one word) in 69.
Q: 1968 corvette..Original question was ..how does one remove rear axle? i was ask why i want to do that?
reason is to insert brake backing plate previous owner had removed…
A: that sounds fairly easy.you will need the details for this operation.a 1968 corvette book should help you.

Q: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible?
where can i found out how many 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertibles with the Auxillary Hardtop, 427/ 435 hp engine, and equipped with rally sport package and factory air conditioner were produced?

Q: i have a 1968 427 corvette and when i turn the key off and accidently go to accessory the car remains running
This is not Good….
A: at the back of the lock is the actual ignition switch and wiring-it is screwed to the base of the lock and barrel and key-it will be knackered-replace it–it is a white or blackplastic cylinder attached to the end of the key barrel-it has 6 to 10 wires coming off it to a plug,that goes to the main loom
Q: looking for information on 1968 corvette VIN 194378s423377?
A: Below is what can be decoded based on the VIN by number, in order. With the exception of the code for either coupe or convertible, and individual production numbers, all ‘68 Vette VIN #’s are basically the same. The trim tag will tell much more about the car than the VIN does. That’s the one you need to check.
194378S423377
1 = Chevrolet Division
9 = Corvette Model
4 = V8
37 = 2 door coupe
8 = 1968
S = St. Louis assembly plant
423377 = production number
Q: Would you rather have a 1968 corvette convertible with a 327 engine or a 1968 Camaro with a big block.?
A: A 1986 used Yugo
Q: How can I find out if my Corvette is a COPO? It is a 1968 with HPR stamped on passenger side back of block.?
It came radio delete, no spare tire carrier, & not a sign of an emergency brake. It has no creature comforts, & nobody that has seen it can explain why it has so many springs under it. It has 12 layers of springs & you can feel a pea if you run over it. It is producing 550 rear wheel HP, & as far as we can tell this engine has never been taken out of the car. It didn’t even have power steering or air or anything. The numbers on the block match the VIN, & it only has 45,573 miles on it. Everybody in the Vette club says they think it is a COPO, but can’t tell me how to find out. Thanks for any help.
A: Run the VIN, Engine Block, Left Fender well and the one that is on the Dash or Firewall, they all match, it could be. Then run that VIN to the guys at CarCrazy PBS or Hemmings Motor News. The Tappet bros can prolly answer it fast.
